Acrylic on linen
2017

The surfaces of my paintings tend to be either matte or satin as I deliberately avoid the plastic sheen that acrylic painting tends to have. This is accomplished by carefully and laboriously building up and sanding the gessoed surface before applying paint as well as adding dispersions to increase the pigment load. The only exceptions are when I use metallic paints such as the silver employed here. The thin application allows the underpainting to show through which causes interesting light shifting effects depending on the viewing angle.
